Reel Heroes: kids make a movie, win an AMD computer!
Earlier this summer we had an idea: what if instead of being like other film festivals and finding real filmmakers who are part of the festivities to make intro reels for the fest we asked regular kids who were into fantasy and scifi to make something that would serve as our theatrical bumper?
With that vision in mind, we partnered with AMD and the Austin School of Film to put together REEL HEROES: The Fantastic Fest Trailer Making Competition, and asked youths 16 and under to put together a video introducing us to a superhero of their own devising. The top contenders from the contest will have their work screened as the introduction before all the movies at Fantastic Fest, and the ultimate winner will even get filmmaking hardware courtesy of AMD.
Teams are already hard at work on their movies, but it's not too late if you or someone you know wants to sign up to create a Reel Hero. Registration is free and still open at FilmmakingFrenzy.com, and while you're there you can also start getting information on our other Frenzies, including BLOODSHOTS, the 48 hour horror filmmaking competition that will be screening at Fantastic Fest 2007.
